The trips became known as the America's Lights Out Tour (ALOT). Over time, members of the group began calling themselves Alotians. The phrase "lights out" is a slang description of a golfer who is playing exceeding well. Not to be confused with a Laotian, a person from the SE Asian country of Laos.
