LITTLE ROCK - Arkansas' lottery is marking the start of Powerball ticket sales with a series of events leading up to Saturday night.
A bright-red lighting display was planned Tuesday night on three sides of downtown Little rock's Bank of America plaza. Officials announced that they planned to display giant red Powerballs around the state starting Thursday with radio promotions inviting residents who see them to call in for a chance to win prizes.
The lottery also planned a Powerball kickoff party on Saturday night at 9 p.m. in Little Rock's River Market Pavilion featuring an eight-story ball drop counting down until ticket sales start at 10:15 p.m.
Arkansas' lottery launched Sept. 28 with the start of scratch-off tickets. Powerball is played in 30 states, the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands.
