Jim Fink, who in April 2008 was named president and chief operating officer of Yarnell's Ice Cream of Searcy, has retired, according to Christina Yarnell, EVP and treasurer.
Fink retired about two weeks ago, and Yarnell's, one of the largest privately held ice cream companies in the United States, hasn't yet named a replacement, Yarnell told Arkansas Business.
Fink, who joined the company in 2003 as chief financial officer, was the first nonfamily member named as a top executive of the company, which was founded in 1932. Fink had been an executive vice president of TCBY Enterprises and president of Americana Foods, a national frozen dessert manufacturer in Dallas.
Yarnell's has a consulting agreement with Fink and he is still serving the company in that role, Yarnell said.
Yarnell said the decision to retire was Fink's and that he wanted to spend more time with his family. "Jim Fink is a wonderful gentleman and we think very highly of him," she said.
Fink was named an Arkansas Business "40 Under 40" in 1997.
Allen McGirt will fill the role of financial manager of the company with the title of director of finance and accounting, said Yarnell, the fourth generation to manage the family company. Stressing that Yarnell's is a very private company, Yarnell would say only that McGirt came to his position from outside the firm.
As of last year, Rogers Yarnell, who had been president of the company, was chairman and CEO. His father and Christina's grandfather, Albert Yarnell, was serving as chairman emeritus and secretary.
