Game On Acquired by Wayne Britt's New Company

Former Tyson Foods Inc. CEO Wayne Britt is behind the acquisition of Game On Promotions LLC, a Fayetteville sports schedule poster operation.

Game On issued a news release Tuesday announcing the acquisition by 5 Star Sports Calendar LLC, a new company formed by an investment group organized by Britt. 5 Star acquired the operating assets of Game On, including all rights to the name "Game On," according to the release.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The investors supporting 5 Star, which will continue to provide sports schedule products and other advertising and promotion services to schools across the country, include an unnamed affiliate of Stephens Inc.

Britt will serve as president and CEO of 5 Star. He retired as CEO at Tyson in 2000 following a 28-year career with the company.

"I am very pleased to have the opportunity to work with Wayne Britt and 5 Star Sports Calendar," Game On founder Mark McQueen said in the release. "I look forward to the growth for both the company and for all of the wonderful employees. Most importantly, the company will be well positioned to provide unprecedented service to schools for many, many years to come."

McQueen founded Game On in May 2008 after working at its predecessor, Athletic World Advertising. A 2006 report in the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal put Athletic World Advertising's annual revenue at about $17 million, but founder Gregg Ogden died in August 2007 and the company went through some rocky financial times before McQueen created Game On.

Tuesday's release also indicated that Dick Johnson, former Fayetteville School District athletic director and assistant superintendent, will serve as a vice president of 5 Star. Johnson announced his resignation from the Fayetteville school district in August and joined Game On in October.
