A Social Security Administration employee who moonlighted as a tax preparer was indicted Wednesday by a federal grand jury in Little Rock for preparing false returns, fraudulently using Social Security numbers and indentity theft.
The 59-count indictment of Sharon Meyers-Washington of Little Rock was announced in a news release by Jane Duke, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas.
According to the release, Meyers-Washington was a Social Security case intake specialist who also worked as a tax return preparer for Jackson Hewitt for tax years 2005 and 2006 and for JBL Rapid Refunds in 2007. She allegedly prepared returns for others that contained fraudulent deductions that cost the federal government more than $107,000.
Additionally, from January 2007 to June 2008, Meyers-Washington retrieved Social Security numbers and used them as part of her tax fraud scheme.
Meyers-Washington was charged with 24 counts of aiding and assisting the preparation of false tax returns, 34 counts of fraudulently using Social Security numbers and one count of aggravated identity theft.
