Dillard’s Inc. said sales for October were $361.7 million, compared to the $406.1 million last October. Total sales were off 11 percent, while sales in comparable stores dropped 8 percent for the period. Analysts had expected a decline of 8 percent.
For the quarter that ended Oct. 31, sales were $1.3 billion, compared to $1.5 billion for the same period a year ago. Total sales declined 11 percent, while same-store sales decreased 9 percent.
Total sales for the Little Rock department chain's first three quarters were $4.1 billion, compared with $4.8 for the year-ago period. Total sales so far into the fiscal year are down 14 percent and same-store sales fell 12 percent.
October sales were above the average in the Eastern region, slightly below trend in the Central region and below trend in the West. Sales of shoes were significantly stronger during the period, but the home and furniture category and the juniors’ and children’s apparel category were significantly below trend.
