Arkansas Blue Cross & Blue Shield on Thursday announced plans to build a new 18,000-SF data center in Conway. The company also said it will announce plans for another data center in the next two weeks.
Mark White, president and CEO of Arkansas Blue Cross & Blue Shield, made the announcement at a Conway Chamber of Commerce CEO luncheon in Conway.
Construction is expected to begin on the Conway center in mid-2010. It will be in The Meadows Office & Technology Park, which last year was selected as the site for a 1,200-job Hewlett-Packard service center.
ArkansasBusiness.com reported on Tuesday that the health insurer had plans to add a new data center in the city.
The Conway data center will be staffed with 15-20 employees who will move from company's existing Little Rock center.
Also Thursday, White said Blue Cross will announce another new data center sometime in the next couple of weeks. He said the center will be located some where between Little Rock and Conway, but declined to provide futher details.
Blue Cross purchased enough land in the park to allow for future expansion, White said.
"We're glad to be a part of this project and a part of this community," he said.
White didn't finish before providing some observations on the current health-care reform debate.
