Contractor Board Rethinking New License for Lewis May

Change font size

The state Contractors Licensing Board on Friday morning decided to wait three months before deciding whether a license should be issued for a new venture by embattled contractor Lewis May.

The board had decided Oct. 9 to grant a license to May's new venture, May CMS LLC, doing business as May Construction Management Services LLC. Later that day, however, news broke that May, president of May Construction Co. of Little Rock, had been arrested on Oct. 7 on a criminal warrant from Virginia, where he's been in a financial dispute with subcontractors on a Lowe's store that opened in August 2008.

The new license, though approved, has not been issued. After close questioning by members of the CLB, May asked for a 90-day continuance in order to resolve some of the issues. The continuance was granted.
