Asa Hutchinson Vows to Fight EPA on Clean Air Rules

1 min read

LITTLE ROCK – Republican gubernatorial nominee Asa Hutchinson is vowing to join a lawsuit challenging the federal’s government’s proposed rules for power-plant pollution that are aimed at reducing global warming.

Hutchinson on Monday said he would push for the state to join 12 other states that have joined to challenge the Environmental Protection Agency’s proposal to cut carbon-dioxide emissions by 30 percent by 2030. Hutchinson said he would ask the attorney general to challenge the rules, but left open the possibility of hiring outside counsel if whoever wins the AG’s race this fall won’t join the lawsuit on behalf of the state.

Hutchinson is running against Democratic nominee Mike Ross. The two are running to replace Democratic Gov. Mike Beebe, who is barred by term limits from seeking re-election.
