Regions Bank Adds Waylan Wiggins to Roster

2 min read

Last week it was Relyance Bank of Pine Bluff luring lenders away from First Security Bank of Searcy.

This week, Regions Bank has scored a nice hire: Waylan Wiggins, previously president of the Stuttgart branch of Arkansas County Bank of DeWitt.

Lynn Wright, president of the Arkansas market for Alabama-based Regions, confirmed that Wiggins had been hired to replace the retiring Bobby Montgomery, who was the primary agricultural lender for Regions in southeast Arkansas.

Montgomery worked in Regions’ England branch. But when Whispers asked Wright whether Wiggins would also be working in England, he said that was still being sorted out.

Could Regions be contemplating opening an office in Stuttgart?

“No comment on that,” Wright said.

Most of Regions’ agri lenders in Arkansas have been part of a team based in Jonesboro, Wright said, and Montgomery was pretty much on his own in southeast Arkansas.

“We’re one of the 10 largest ag banks in the country, and we certainly plan to continue to invest in that space,” Wright said.

Bank Land

Meanwhile in Little Rock, Regions Bank has put some changes in motion regarding its presence in the Heights area.

Regions acquired a 1.4-acre property for $2.2 million in advance of a branch relocation.

The land is along R Street on the west side of University Avenue.

The property represents a future replacement for the leased Regions location four blocks to the southeast at 1801 N. Fillmore St.

That 2,493-SF branch was developed circa 1975 for First National Bank of Little Rock.
