Krispy Kreme Opens in Conway, Plans Pastries ‘Round the Clock

2 min read

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts officially opened today in Conway.

Trentlaw LLC purchased a half-acre lot on Dave Ward Drive for $255,000 over the summer with plans to bring the Winston-Salem, North Carolina doughnut shop to Conway. The 2,650-SF shop is located at 1105 Dave Ward Drive, between Taco Bueno and Hardee’s.

Dennis Porter, officer with Trentlaw LLC, said Wednesday that the store was ready to open with 62 employees and the ability to crank out up to 110 dozen doughnuts an hour. Anticipating a high demand, Porter said the shop will make doughnuts 24 hours a day for an extended period of time, even though its stores hours will be 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Porter said he expected a “staggering” performance for the new location in its first days and weeks.

The shop offered an unadvertised soft opening Tuesday night, and Porter said it didn’t take long for the place to fill up.

“We had people from Stuttgart on Facebook asking ‘Do you think we can get there in time?’ It was packed,” Porter said.

Future Locations Around the State?

In June, Porter, who also owns Sonic Drive-In restaurants in Vilonia, Greenbrier, Clinton and Greers Ferry, said he had plans to build Krispy Kreme shops across the state. He told Arkansas Business on Wednesday that his next shop will be in Jonesboro. The negotiations on the exact location are ongoing.

Porter said he would more than likely spend the next several years developing Krispy Kreme locations throughout the state. He didn’t rule out a second location in Conway.

“We put it where we thought it would do extremely well with the growth [of Conway],” Porter said. “We put it on one side of the town, and it may come a time when it would be financially prudent to go to the other side of town. That’s not off the table. It’s highly possible down the road.”

The Conway shop will make three Krispy Kreme locations in Arkansas, including one each in Little Rock and Bentonville. Both shops have been cranking out the doughnuts. Through September, both locations have done more than $1.3 million in sales.
