Arkansas Northeastern College of Blytheville Starts $13M Construction Project

1 min read

Arkansas Northeastern College of Blytheville is building an approximately $13 million center for industrial training.

The Center for Allied Technologies is expected to open to students in August 2018, said ANC President James Shemwell.

The center will be about 85,000 SF and combine three of the school’s existing centers: the Harry L. Crisp Center, the Burdette Center and the Aircraft & Metals Engineering Center. The Crisp Center is for customized industrial training, which provides training for companies. Some of the training is for college credit and some isn’t, Shemwell said.

The Burnett Center operates the secondary technical center, where high school students attend during the day for one of six career programs, such as advanced manufacturing and welding.

In addition, students who want to be certified aviation mechanics can take classes at the Aircraft & Metals Engineering Center. The three centers have about 2,000 students annually, Shemwell said.

“Our primary purpose is not just to save money, although we’ll save about $100,000 a year by consolidating these things, [but] the biggest purpose is to elevate these professions in … the minds of young people, in the minds of school counselors, parents,” Shemwell said.

A.C. Williams Architect is the architect on the project, and it will take about a year to design the work, Shemwell said. The general contractor hasn’t been chosen. The construct work is expected to take about two years, he said.
