State Highway 41 Near Red River Closed Due to Flooding

1 min read

LITTLE ROCK – Arkansas transportation officials have indefinitely closed a portion of State Highway 41 near the Red River due to flooding.

The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department shut down a section of the route north of the Texas state line early Thursday morning. Officials say the section will remain closed until water recedes and state engineers conduct a damage assessment.

Senior Meteorologist Jason Hansford with the National Weather Service in Shreveport, Louisiana, says up to an inch of rain could fall in southwest Arkansas on Thursday. He says the area has received between 5 and 10 inches of rain this month, which is above average.

More rain is projected across the state, with 1 to 2 inches possible through the weekend.

The service has warned of additional flooding along the Red River.
