Arkansas Tech University in Russellville has named Hanna Norton dean of its new College of eTech, which aims to expand the university’s degree programs online.

ATU established the new college on July 1. Norton is assistant vice president for academic affairs and a professor of journalism; she’s been with ATU since 2001.

“It is important that we offer educational opportunities to people regardless of their station in life,” Norton said in a news release. “We exist to help students meet their educational and professional goals.”

ATU said the eTech college will work with the ATU’s Bachelor of Professional Studies degree program, which offers accelerated degree tracks, and all other online courses offered at the university. So far, 83 courses have been vetted for online delivery.

“Our role in the College of eTech includes helping faculty develop quality, online course work that fosters student-to-instructor and student-to-student interaction,” she added.

The college will vet process online courses for development, help train and certify faculty in online teaching methods, and help veterans and active military find online learning opportunities.

Other ATU degrees available online include an associate of science in early childhood education (pre-K), an associate of arts in general studies, a bachelor of science in emergency management, and other degrees in nursing, English, education, emergency management, health informatics and business administration.

“We want the rigor of our face-to-face classes and our online classes to be exactly the same,” Norton said. “We are working toward a more seamless process for students from the moment they express an interest through graduation day.”
