American Railcar to Invest $10.5M, Add 75 Jobs in Marmaduke

2 min read

American Railcar Industries Inc., a designer and manufacturer of hopper and tank railcars, is expanding its tank railcar manufacturing facility in Marmaduke.

As part of the expansion, the company plans to invest $10.5 million in buildings and equipment and expects to hire up to 75 new full-time employees.

According to Scott Hardin, Director of Communications for the Arkansas Economic Development Commission, ARI qualified for two incentives.

The first was InvestArk, sales- and use-tax credits that the company will receive for investing $5 million or more at a single location in plant or equipment, and the second is the Create Rebate Program, which provides a cash rebate of 3.9 percent of the total payroll associated with new jobs.

The expansion will allow ARI to retrofit tank railcars to meet stricter safety standards imposed by the U.S. and Canada earlier this year.

“Our strong team of employees at our Marmaduke facility, as well as all of our facilities, continue to support the success of our business,” Jeff Hollister, ARI’s president and CEO, said in a news release. “The capital invested in our Marmaduke facility will serve to further diversify our business to meet current and anticipated demand for retrofits, tank certifications and railcar maintenance, while also providing additional flexibility for our new tank railcar production.”

In addition to its Marmaduke plant, ARI opened a hopper railcar assembly factory in Paragould in 1995, the first major railcar assembly plant in its manufacturing network. The Marmaduke plant opened in 1999.

“ARI has been and continues to be a tremendous asset to Marmaduke,” Marmaduke Mayor Steve Dixon said. “This investment shows continued confidence in our community and we as the leaders here, appreciate that vote of approval.”
