J.B. Hunt Sues Software Company

1 min read

J.B. Hunt Transport Inc. of Lowell says software purchased for its transportation brokerage services didn’t work right.

The trucking company sued the software license and service provider, MercuryGate International Inc. of Cary, North Carolina, and alleged breach of contract and negligence.

The price tag on the software?

$3.1 million.

According to its lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Fayetteville, J.B. Hunt signed an agreement with MercuryGate in 2012 for the licensing, installation, implementation and maintenance of a software system J.B. Hunt would use to book loads for delivery, identify and track carriers and logistics management.

But J.B. Hunt alleged that the software “is virtually useless.”

J.B. Hunt said it asked for its money back, but MercuryGate refused.

In the lawsuit, J.B. Hunt is asking for the $3.1 million plus an unspecified amount for damages and attorney’s fees.

Attorney Jeff Mitchell of Fayetteville is representing J.B. Hunt.

MercuryGate didn’t immediately return a call for comment.
