Goodson Announces Bid for Arkansas Chief Justice

1 min read

LITTLE ROCK – Justice Courtney Goodson has launched her bid to lead the Arkansas Supreme Court, vowing to represent “common sense, conservative” values in the post.

Goodson announced Wednesday she was running next year for the eight-year term running the court with a video on her campaign website. She’s running to replace interim Chief Justice Howard Brill, who was appointed last week to serve the remainder of Jim Hannah’s term on the court.

Hannah stepped down last month, citing unspecified health problems.

A former state appeals court judge, Goodson was first elected to the Supreme Court in 2010. She’s the first candidate to announce a bid for chief justice.

Goodson is running for chief justice months after an unusually public dispute on the court over its handling of the gay marriage case.
