Today’s Power to Provide Solar Array for Ozarks Electric Cooperative

1 min read

Today’s Power Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Arkansas Electric Cooperatives Inc. of Little Rock, said Friday that it reached an agreement to provide a one-megawatt AC solar array for Ozarks Electric Cooperative of Fayetteville.

Ozarks Electric plans to offer its members the opportunity to subscribe to solar energy produced by the system, the subsidiary said in a news release.

“This will be the first utility-scale, member-owned solar power generation facility in Arkansas,” Mitchell Johnson, president and CEO of Ozarks Electric, said. “Many of our members have indicated a strong interest in their cooperative providing opportunities to allow them to participate in a cost-effective, solar energy program. We are pleased to partner with TPI to deliver a great offering to our members.”

The system, scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2016, will involve an array of more than 4,000 panels and encompass nearly 4 acres on a 6-acre site. The energy output could provide power for up to 160 homes, according to TPI President Michael Henderson.

Johnson said the project will not be subsidized by members that choose not to participate.

Launched in February, TPI is an authorized distributor and installer for TKS photovoltaic systems in Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Missouri. Last month, it reached an agreement to provide a similar solar array for Tri-County Electric Cooperative of Hooker, Oklahoma.
