Scott Varady to Lead Razorback Foundation

Scott Varady will be the next executive director and general counsel of the Razorback Foundation, the University of Arkansas Athletics Department announced on Tuesday.

Varady, the university’s associate general counsel, has been with the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville for more than 19 years.

Varady will replace former Arkansas baseball coach Norm DeBriyn, who had been serving as interim executive director after Sean Rochelle left the position in JulyRochelle took over the executive director post after the foundation’s previous leader, Chris Wyrick, left to to become the UA’s vice chancellor for advancement.

Varady will take begin work at the foundation on Dec. 1. 

The Razorback Foundation is a nonprofit fundraising organization for the university’s athletic department. The foundation reported $27.8 million in contributions and grants in fiscal 2014, according to its most recent form 990 filing with the IRS. As of June 30, 2014, it reported having net assets of $45.2 million.

“As a native Arkansan and lifelong Razorback fan, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to join the team of dedicated professionals at the Razorback Foundation,” Varady said in a statement.

Before joining the university, Varady was an associate at Mitchell Williams Selig Gates & Woodyard PLLC of Little Rock, focusing on commercial litigation. Before that, he was an associate with the firm of Swidler & Berlin Chartered in Washington, D.C., focusing on telecommunications, environmental insurance recovery litigation and general litigation.
