Coin Collection of Turner Grain’s Dale Bartlett Heads for Auction

1 min read

If you want a piece of Dale Bartlett’s coin collection, the time to act will be next month.

Bartlett, a former co-owner of Turner Grain Merchandising of Brinkley who filed for bankruptcy protection last year, will see his collectible coins put up for auction.

The collection includes 250 U.S. half dollars, 149 U.S. Peace dollars, 87 U.S. Morgan pieces and 35 gold pieces, according to a filing by the bankruptcy trustee, Warren Dupwe of Jonesboro. The Peace dollars, so called because the word “Peace” is on the coin’s back side, contained silver and were minted from 1921-35. The Morgan dollars also had silver in them and were minted from 1878-1904.

Auctioneer Joel M. King of Jonesboro will handle the sale. He said he expects the auction to happen in December in northeast Arkansas, but didn’t have a date set as of Thursday.

Other items to be sold include a 2007 Mercedes GL4, 2012 GMC truck and a 2013 Volkswagen.

The deadline for filing claims against Bartlett was Sept. 24. As of last week, secured claims totaled $409,207, priority claims totaled $2.2 million, and unsecured claims stood at $45.5 million.

Bartlett had about $2 million worth of property, and $347,000 worth of exemptions has been claimed. That leaves approximately $1.6 million to distribute.

As for Turner Grain, it also filed for bankruptcy protection last year. Its Chapter 7 liquidation remains open.

Update, Jan. 4, 2016: King tells Arkansas Business the auction date is Jan. 14 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Jonesboro.
