Update: Scott Inman to Leave KATV in Early 2016, Join GenWealth

3 min read

Scott Inman, the lead news anchor for KATV-TV, Channel 7, in Little Rock, will leave the ABC affiliate in early 2016 and join GenWealth Financial Advisors as director of business development.

KATV released a statement Tuesday morning that said Inman was stepping away to “pursue other interests” and “spend more time with his family.” GenWealth issued its own news release Tuesday afternoon revealing that Inman would be joining the firm “in 2016.”

“I am excited about the opportunity to join the GenWealth team,” Inman said in the release. “I was already a client, and trust GenWealth with my investments. I look forward to helping others establish that trust with their knowledgeable and experienced group of advisors.”

GenWealth has offices in west Little Rock, Bryant, El Dorado, Lonoke and Stuttgart, Inman’s hometown.

“Scott has been an important part of the KATV family for over 16 years, and while we are sad to see him go, we fully support his decision and wish him the best in all his future endeavors,” KATV General Manager Mark Rose said in a statement. “He will be missed.”

John Shrewsbury, GenWealth Managing Partner, said Inman’s ability to communicate makes him a natural fit for the firm.

“I know Scott as someone of great integrity. Those traits are the first things we look for in a team member,” he said. “And, when it comes to personal finance, being able to take complex issues and communicate them in a relevant way is essential.”

Inman called the decision to leave KATV a difficult one.

“I am truly humbled by the trust KATV viewers have placed in me over the years, and know that they will continue to trust KATV for their news, weather and sports,” he said. “I know I will. The journalists and meteorologists here are the best in the business. They are also family. I will miss being around them every day, but look forward to watching them every night.”

Inman joined KATV in 1999 as weekend sports anchor and was promoted to the main anchor chair in 2003. In 2007, he was KATV’s choice to replace the late Paul Eells as the “Voice of the Razorbacks” when KATV and the University of Arkansas partnered on the Arkansas Razorbacks Sports Network. The job ultimately went to Chuck Barrett, with Inman picked to host pre-game and post-game shows for Razorbacks football games on the radio.

ARSN is now the “Razorback Sports Network,” a division of IMG College, which holds the broadcast rights to Razorbacks sports. When asked about his future with RSN, Inman said in a statement through KATV, “I hope to continue my role with the Razorback Sports Network.”

KATV maintains a relationship with RSN and IMG, co-producing Razorback television specials throughout the year, but is not directly involved with Inman’s broadcasting with RSN.

“The decision to remain with IMG is up to Scott and IMG,” Rose told Arkansas Business Tuesday afternoon. “We fully supported Scott’s decision to be involved and I hope he will continue in the future.”

KATV’s original release said the affiliate stayed atop the local Nielsen television ratings during Inman’s 16 years at the station. KATV is owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group of Hunt Valley, Maryland.

“Scott has always been a well-liked, well respected leader in our newsroom. We know he will succeed in whatever challenge he takes on next,” said KATV News Director Nick Genty. He added that Inman “brought insight and analysis that has made KATV’s outstanding political coverage the best in the state, and a passion for Razorback sports that contributed to KATV’s top-notch sports coverage.”
