Dale Bartlett Items Sold at Auction

2 min read

Dale Bartlett’s coin collection netted a pretty penny at a recent auction.

Bartlett’s sale of rare coins brought in about $18,000, and all the items sold at the Jan. 14 auction generated nearly $60,000, according to Auctioneer Joel M. King, who handled the sale as part of Bartlett’s bankruptcy liquidation that was filed in 2014.

Bartlett, as you know, is the former co-owner of Turner Grain Merchandising of Brinkley, which also filed for bankruptcy protection in 2014.

Bartlett’s 35 gold pieces sold for an average of $300 a piece, said King, who is an owner and principal broker with United Country-Dynasty Auction & Realty of Jonesboro. The coin collection included 250 U.S. half dollars, 149 U.S. Peace dollars and 87 U.S. Morgan pieces, according to a filing by the bankruptcy trustee, Warren Dupwe of Jonesboro. The Peace dollars, so called because the word “Peace” is on the coin’s back side, contained silver and were minted from 1921-35.

King reported that Bartlett’s 2012 GMC truck sold for $20,500; 2013 Volkswagen, $13,000; and a 2007 Mercedes GL4, $8,000.

If you missed out on owning a piece of Bartlett’s possessions, don’t worry — there’s more. Another auction is set for Feb. 16, and 10 tracts of land will be offered. The properties are located in Monroe, Lee and Phillips counties and include parcels for farming and hunting.

Bartlett’s arsenal of eight long guns and several pistols also is expected to be placed on the auction block, but a date hadn’t been set as of press time, King said.

The deadline for filing claims against Bartlett was Sept. 24. As of Thursday, secured claims totaled $409,207, priority claims totaled $2.2 million, and unsecured claims stood at $48.2 million.

Bartlett had about $2 million worth of property, and $347,000 worth of exemptions has been claimed.

Turner Grain’s Chapter 7 liquidation remains open.
