If you think you might have seen Gene Cauley back in Little Rock, you might be right.
Multiple local sources say the former lawyer has been spotted in public, although the federal Bureau of Prisons did not respond to our requests for confirmation of his release.
Cauley, you surely remember, was sentenced to 86 months in Club Fed and ordered to repay the $9.3 million he stole from a client settlement account.
He reported in January 2010, and his official release date, with time off for good behavior, is April 20, but federal inmates are often eased back into society through a halfway house like City of Faith in Little Rock.
When last he filed a request with the New York court that handled his case, which was a year ago, 47-year-old Cauley was planning to settle down in Hot Springs with his second wife, Kathleen Rooney. He’s required to pay 10 percent of his gross monthly income toward his restitution. He repaid more than $500,000 before he went to prison.
