Sprint to Add Regional HQ in Little Rock, 100 Jobs by Year’s End

2 min read

Sprint Corp. of Overland Park, Kansas, announced Friday that it will bring up to 100 jobs to Little Rock before the end of the year as it opens a new South Central regional headquarters at 900 Shackleford Road.

Gov. Asa Hutchinson and Mayor Mark Stodola joined Sprint South Central Region President Jonathan Blitz for a news conference Friday at the Little Rock Regional Chamber of Commerce.

The regional headquarters will oversee the telecommunication company’s operations in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Oklahoma.

The Arkansas Department of Economic Development is providing incentives for the operation: up to $166,000 in workforce training and its Create Rebate, which provides a cash rebate equal to 3.9 percent of new payroll for 10 years.

Earlier this week, Arkansas Business reported the hiring of Blitz to fill the newly created position, part of Sprint’s efforts to decentralize operations and connect better with customers.

Blitz said Sprint had already started hiring for full- and part-time positions, and that the full-time positions will pay annual salaries of $40,000 to $50,000.

He said jobs would include “director-level sales positions,” “manager/senior manager-level positions” and “consultants.”

“It’s really all levels,” he said.

He said the company hoped to move into the new regional office the first week of June.

Blitz said Sprint has invested more than $62 million on improving the network throughout the state.

“We have a very aggressive plan for growth. Finally, you’re going to see more jobs focused on that customer experience as well as our network,” he said.

The mission of the region is to increase distribution, improve the customer experience, continue to improve the network and bring all that to customers at a better price, Blitz said.

“It’s what Arkansans deserve and it’s what we’re going to deliver,” he said.

Hutchinson said the Sprint announcement put a capstone on the week, following two other announcements of jobs in the timber and manufacturing industries.

“As we all know, one of the crown jewels in economic development is to bring headquarters to this state, regional headquarters,” the governor said. “And to be able to win this investment from Sprint for a regional headquarters in Arkansas in which many surrounding states are served is really a calling card for this state in terms of economic development, the telecommunications industry — and it shows the strength we have and the place we have in that industry.”

Sprint has more than 230 stores in Arkansas, including 34 in Little Rock, according to a news release.

The company’s new structure has divided the country into four areas: West, Central, Northeast and South. There will be 18 regional offices, according to the release.

The South is Arkansas, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee and central Texas.
