Ronald McDonald House Gets $1.2M From Mabee Foundation

2 min read

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Arkansas said Monday that it received $1.2 million from The J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation.

The money will help pay for the new 32,000-SF Ronald McDonald House facility under construction at the corner of 10th and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd in Little Rock. It’s scheduled to open in November.

To receive the donation, the nonprofit had to raise $8 million by April 15; RMHCA met the goal by November. As of April this year, total donations have exceeded $8.4 million of the $8.7 million needed to complete the campaign, the nonprofit said.

“We are so thankful for the gift given to us by The J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation. Their support is a huge boost to the effort to fund the creation of a new larger House for our families,” Janell Mason, RMHCA executive director, said in a news release. “Thanks to the foundation, we only need $300,000 more to meet our goal.”

The new facility, which began construction last summer, will have 32 family suites, an 80-person dining room, a large kitchen, family activity and play spaces, a wellness garden and a basketball half-court.

The Mabee Foundation of Tulsa is a private charitable foundation that serves Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. John E. Mabee and his wife Lottie E. Mabee formed the Foundation in 1948 to aid Christian religious organizations, charitable organizations and institutions of higher learning, hospitals and other organizations of a general charitable nature.

The Ronald McDonald House provides a home away from home for families with ill children being treated at local hospitals.
