The big news in TV news is that Chris May is coming home.
Born and raised in Little Rock, May is returning to KATV-TV, Channel 7, after nearly two decades of major-market anchoring in Boston and Philadelphia.
May’s start date is Aug. 1, according to News Director Nick Genty, who said KATV was pleased to land May after an extensive search to replace Scott Inman. Inman, a 15-year stalwart, left the anchor desk in March to join GenWealth Financial Advisors. May, who left Little Rock in 1998 for WBZ-TV, Boston’s CBS affiliate, has been silent about the development.
After nearly a decade in Boston, May joined KYW-TV, the CBS-owned and operated affiliate in Philadelphia, in 2007. He was primary anchor there until departing with two other colleagues in late June 2015. Since June, his Twitter and Facebook profiles have described him as a “news anchor on sabbatical.”
May, a 1989 graduate of Catholic High School, started as a KATV reporter in 1993 after getting a degree from Arizona State University. Genty announced May’s return to KATV’s staff on Wednesday.
