Miller County to Recount Votes Over Ordinance’s Repeal

1 min read

TEXARKANA, Ark. – The Miller County Election Commission will recount votes cast in Tuesday’s special election that repealed Texarkana’s nondiscrimination ordinance, but officials do not expect the outcome to change.

The election commission says the recount is needed after it “learned of a possible mistake in the tabulation of results” from the election. The repeal was overwhelmingly supported by voters, based on the results released Tuesday night from the election commission.

Election Coordinator Linda Crawford says election commissioners double-counted early votes, which inflated the total number of votes reported.

The Texarkana Gazette reports that the recount will be held at 5 p.m. July 5 at the Miller County courthouse. The election commission said in a news release that it doesn’t think the recount will change the outcome.
