Former Wal-Mart CFO Charles Holley Takes Appointment at Deloitte (Movers & Shakers)

Charles Holley, retired chief financial officer of Wal-Mart Stores Inc., has been appointed as an independent senior adviser for the U.S. CFO Program at Deloitte LLP. Holley will serve as an independent adviser to staff, clients and senior leadership at the company.

“Charles has a caliber of experience that few others can claim, and I’m simply thrilled he has joined Deloitte as our ‘CFO-in-residence,’” said Sanford A. Cockrell III, national managing partner of the U.S. CFO Program at Deloitte. “He will make an immediate impact by validating our offerings and capabilities, while making them more tangible through his CFO experiences.”

Holley served as CFO of Wal-Mart from 2010 to 2016. He was responsible for accounting and control, corporate strategy and development, business planning and analysis, internal auditing, treasury, tax and several other key areas of the company. Prior to Wal-Mart, Holley worked for Tandy Corp., now Radio Shack, as managing director for its European Memorex division and served as director of finance for its international operations. He also spent more than 10 years serving at Ernst & Young.

Holley graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and earned his MBA in finance at the University of Houston. He is a certified public accountant.


Albert Leding has been named controller at the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville. Leding served with the Arkansas Legislative Audit for 32 years, working as a field auditor, audit review specialist and most recently a field audit supervisor.


Philip P. Christensen was recently named fire chief for the city of Fort Smith. Christensen has 23 years of experience in fire and rescue operations, having worked as a firefighter, driver, captain, Local 44 president, battalion chief, division chief of operations and assistant fire chief.


Trane, a leading global provider of indoor comfort solutions and services in Fort Smith, has been awarded the One Million Man Hour Award on behalf of the Arkansas Department of Labor, the Arkansas Insurance Department and the Arkansas Workers’ Compensation Commission. The award recognizes Arkansas companies whose employees excel in on-the-job safety. Trane, a brand of Ingersoll Rand, has accumulated more than 1 million work hours without a lost day of work due to a work-related injury and will also be recognized for its record of no lost days of work in the past two years.


Fort Chaffee Redevelopment Authority in Fort Smith was recently honored with the 2016 John Lynch Base Development Excellence Award from the Association of Defense Communities for its conversion of Fort Chaffee, a former military post, into Chaffee Crossing, a residential and business district. Ivy Owen, executive director of the FCRA, accepted the company’s second ADC award at a ceremony in June during the 2016 Defense Communities National Summit at Washington.
