Ridout Lumber Sold to Illinois Distributor

1 min read

Ridout Lumber Co. of Searcy is no longer the state’s largest family-owned after being acquired last month by US LBM of Buffalo Grove, Illinois.

US LBM is a distributor of building products that acquires similarly focused regional companies, such as Ridout. Ross Ridout, grandson of founder Homer Ridout, was named president of the company after US LBM completed the deal.

The purchase price was not released.

Ridout has 12 Arkansas locations and one in Joplin, Missouri. It was founded in 1971 and sells lumber and building material.

It was No. 40 on Arkansas Business’ most recent list of the state’s largest private companies with 2015 revenue of $242 million.

“Our business has grown successfully for more than 45 years, and joining US LBM will take us to the next level,” Ross Ridout said.

On its website, US LBM said it believes in a “hands-off approach” with companies in those companies’ local markets.

“Over the decades, Ridout has grown into a premier building materials company, and we’re thrilled to welcome them to the US LBM family,” President and CEO J.T. Gibson said. “This new partnership allows us to continue delivering on our strategy of bringing local markets together while expanding our portfolio into new and growing markets across the country.”
