Burris, Bethel Settle Dental Suit Over CommissionLock Icon

1 min read

Last month, Dr. Benjamin Burris and Dr. Justin Bethel, who owned Arkansas Dentistry & Braces, quickly settled a lawsuit filed against them by Dental Resources Systems Inc. of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Dental Resources said it helped negotiate Arkansas Dentistry’s sale to Rock Dental Brands of Little Rock in April, but it alleged it wasn’t paid a commission. Dental Resources sued Burris and Bethel in Washington County Circuit Court and was seeking at least $500,000 for several causes of action, including breach of contract.

The purchase price of Arkansas Dentistry wasn’t disclosed.

But before Burris and Bethel were served with the lawsuit, the case was settled and dismissed.

“There’s certainly two sides to every story,” said Burris’ attorney, Travis Parham of Nashville, Tennessee. “We would have had things to say had we told our side of the story.”

Parham said he couldn’t discuss the terms of the settlement.

“So at this point, … it’s water under the bridge now,” Parham said. “Everyone’s moving on with their respective lives.”

If you recall, Burris bought a small practice in Jonesboro in 2004 and grew it into what his company’s website called the largest individually owned orthodontic practice in North America.

Bethel graduated from the University of Tennessee Dental School in 2000, then started a practice in Benton.

Burris and Bethel created Arkansas Dentistry & Braces in 2014.
