The 24th annual Will Golf 4 Kids Tournament and the 10th annual Color of Hope Gala last week raised $1.1 million for Arkansas Children's Northwest.

In 2016, the events' committees pledged to raise $5 million over the next five years for the construction of the new hospital in Springdale. Last year, the events raised $1.2 million.

So a total of $2.3 million has been raised toward that pledge.

More than 850 golfers participated in the tournament, playing over the course of two days at the Kingsdale Golf Complex in Bella Vista and at the Bella Vista Country Club.

More than 1,600 people attended the gala. Steuart Walton, grandson of Helen and Sam Walton and member of the Walmart board of directors, was the keynote speaker.

Sponsors included SC Johnson, Amplify Snack Brands, Bayer Consumer Healthcare, Celebrate Arkansas Magazine, Everett Buick GMC, GSK and KIK Custom Products.

The 230,000-SF Arkansas Children's Northwest hospital is set to open in January in Springdale, on 37 acres of land donated by Robin and Gary George, Cathy and David Evans and their families.

The project is expected to create 260 jobs and cost $427.7 million in construction, technology, equipment and operating expenses over the next five years.
