Mortuus Pater Pictures Seeks Investors for Comedy PilotLock Icon

The Little Rock startup movie company that recently completed its initial project, the comedy “Antiquities,” is preparing for another production.

Mortuus Pater Pictures is seeking up to $700,000 for the half-hour comedy series pilot “The Examined Life,” which was created and written by Little Rock screenwriter Graham Gordy.

Mortuus Pater, composed of Gordy, director Daniel Campbell and Gary Newton, wants to start production before the end of year, “but that is dependent upon completion of financing,” Newton said in an email to Whispers.

“The intention would be to use the pilot, which will be directed by Campbell and shot in Arkansas, to sell the series, which also is planned to be produced in Arkansas.”

“Antiquities” was just completed and Mortuus Pater is looking for a distributor to buy the film, which was shot primarily in North Little Rock last year. Mortuus Pater is being assisted by the talent management firm Anonymous Content and the Creative Artists Agency.

These days, Gordy is writing the third season of HBO’s “True Detective.”

Investors in “Antiquities” had a right of first refusal to invest in “The Examined Life,” Newton said. That offer expired Aug. 15, so Mortuus Pater is taking questions from potential investors.

“Our goal is to get folks to finally view motion picture production in Arkansas as a legitimate, knowledge-based industry,” Newton said. “To do that, our business fundamentals must be sound and our treatment of our investors, vendors, sponsors, cast and crew exceptional.”
