1 min read

The owner of Cogswell Motors Inc. of Russellville and his wife have been found dead in their home.

Arkansas Business news partner KTHV-TV, Channel 11, reports that the bodies of Keith B. Cogswell III, 55, and Leanna Cogswell, 39, were found in their home Tuesday in the 300 block of Shiloh Road in Russellville.

THV 11 News reports that the Pope County Sheriff’s Office, Russellville Police Department and Arkansas State Police have been working the scene. Police said a house cleaner found the couple dead from gunshot wounds inside the home.

In a statement posted by the River Valley Leader news website, Cogswell Motors said it was “deeply saddened” to learn about the deaths.

“We will honor their memories by dedicating ourselves to continuing the work that Keith loved so much,” the company said. “Cogswell Motors desires to respect the Cogswell family’s privacy, and therefore we do not have any further comment at this difficult time.”

Keith Cogswell Sr. founded Cogswell Motors in 1949. His son, Keith Cogswell Jr., later took over the business and died in 1994. In later years, Keith Cogswell III has led the dealership, which sells Fords, Mazda and Lincoln automobiles.

Arkansas Business last wrote about the Cogswells in the early 2000s, amid a family dispute over the ownership of the dealership and related real estate. At the time, the company ranked among the 25 largest auto dealerships in Arkansas, with annual sales of more than $30 million. The family reached a settlement in 2002.
