Drew Memorial Unveils Expanded Facility

1 min read

With special guest Gov. Asa Hutchinson in attendance, the Drew Memorial Health System board unveiled its new medical facility Friday.

Arkansas Business previously reported in June 2016 that Drew Memorial was set to begin the $31 million, 51,000-SF expansion.

The now-complete expansion includes a larger surgery center with six operating rooms, two dedicated C-section suites, and pre-op and post-op areas. The project offers a more convenient outpatient clinic too, allowing for two visiting specialists to hold clinic hours simultaneously. In addition, the labor, delivery and recovery unit was relocated and expanded to three times its previous size. The main entrance and the auxiliary-operated gift shop were also expanded.

The hospital said the construction project created an estimated $2 million annual economic impact before the new facilities opened, but increased capacity will improve the success of the health system and its economic influence on Drew County for years to come.

The project was funded by an ad valorem tax of $4 million, approved by Drew County 10 years ago and dedicated to the new surgical center; and a one-fourth cent sales tax, approved by Drew County in 2015 and used to leverage $9 million. Drew Memorial also used $4 million of its cash and $14 million in revenue bonds secured by future revenues.

The hospital also previewed its new branding campaign at the unveiling. The campaing will be launched soon to complement the new logo and identity system that was introduced in April 2017.
