Gulf South Conference Still Flourishing

The University of Arkansas at Fort Smith is transitioning from a two-year college to a four-year college athletically.

While both the men and the women picked up wins on the court, both teams could wind up in the Gulf South Conference soon.

Mike Perrin, a columnist with the Birmingham News, has a nice piece today about the conference and its future growth.

Interesting to note, besides the reference to UAFS's interest in the conference that Lambuth (Tenn.) University is also exploring the possibility of joining the conference. Fans of Lyon College in Batesville know the Eagles extremely well. Lambuth is a member of the TranSouth Athletic Conference — same as the Scots and Pipers.

Another interesting factoid in Perrin's column is the interest of West Florida's new president to add football and take the Pensacola, Fla., school Division I. Just what college football needs, another Florida school playing football.
