What are the odds Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett wins the Heisman Trophy?

Thanks to the fine folks in Las Vegas, that’s more than a rhetorical question. (We mention this strictly for entertainment purposes of course).

Mallett opened at +1200 in the Heisman Trophy odds set late last month. Last year’s winner Mark Ingram is at +380 and is viewed by Vegas as the favorite.

What does all this mean? I consulted wth Rob Keys of the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal, a guy who ArkansasSports360.com readers probably know best as The Betting Man:

“If you bet $100 and Mallett wins it, you collect $1200. He essentially is a 12-to-1 proposition.

“Bet $100 on Ingram and you win $380, etc. So, it looks like Mallett is the fourth choice.”

Ingram is followed by Ohio State quarterback Terelle Pryor (+500) and Washignton quarterback Jake Locker (+800). Mallett and Ingram are the only SEC players on the 26-man list we first saw thanks to the Orlando Sentinel.
