Former Arkansas (South Carolina, Notre Dame, etc.) Coach Lou Holtz is never afraid to talk. His willingness to chat has landed him book deals and an analysts chair for ESPN’s college football coverage.

Will his vocal support of a movement to “Fire Nancy Pelosi” land him in hot water? Holtz, according to a post on The Big Lead, is lending his voice and money to the National Republican Congressional Committee.

More from TBL:

Lou Holtz, an avid Republican, has to know by now that politics can make some of the suits at ESPN squeamish. So why would he get this involved in the cause?

Holtz is no stranger to politics. Holtz considered a run for office in Florida in 2009.

Back in his Arkansas days Holtz lost friends (he says he was fired) for filming an ad in support of controversial North Carolina Republican politician Jesse Helms. Holtz filmed the ad in his office and Helms was thought to be a racist.

Knowing his history and ESPN’s history when it comes to folks making political commentary, Holtz is either extremely principled or nuts.
