Nutt Says Arkansas Fan Interest In Him Has Subsided. Has It?

Was the new Rebel Black Bear modeled after Houston Nutt? More importantly, do Arkansas fans still have an interest in the Ole Miss game because of Nutt?

This story is from the archives of ArkansasSports360.com.

Ole Miss Coach Houston Nutt figures the interest in his return to Fayetteville has subsided. It’s been three years since he coached the Razorbacks after all.

No. 21 Arkansas hosting the Rebels (Bears?) is just another SEC game, right? This isn’t much more than a couple of last-place teams in the SEC West facing off in an 11:20 a.m. game.

“I think it’s probably died down a little bit. But I don’t know. I’m sure that there’s a few people that naturally want to see (Ole Miss lose). But you know, again, the thing about the SEC that I’m more concerned with is because our league is so tough and so good, you better be focused on the task at hand. You better worry about that. Really don’t have time to worry about, ‘Well, what do they think’ and ‘What about the emotion’ and all that. I’m not concerned about that.”

Are Arkansas fans concerned with it?

There’s what the school is calling a sold out Reynolds Razorback Stadium and several ‘Houston You Have Problem’ type parties scheduled for Friday night in Fayetteville that seem to suggest so.

And whatever current Razorbacks think of Nutt, you can bet they don't like being 0-2 against him the last two years. There figure to be some who didn't enjoy seeing Nutt get a celebratory Gatorade bath on Frank Broyles Field in 2008.

Consider what cornerback Ramon Broadway said Wednesday after practice. He didn't speak specifically to Nutt, but the importance he and teammates put on this year' Ole Miss game.

“This one right here, this one is for the state. We’re going to do this one for the state. We’re going to do this one for Coach P[etrino] and we’re going to do this one for ourselves. We’ve definitely got to get this win. It has been awhile since we beat them. you’ve got to come in and do this thing for the whole state of Arkansas.”

What do y'all think? Do fans still care about beating Nutt and Ole Miss?
