Arkansas wide receiver Greg Childs is out for the season with a patella tendon injury. Childs has no ligament damage, but the injury will require surgery.

"It's a big loss for us," Coach Bobby Petrino said. Childs' injury is severe enough that he would likely be unable to go through contact in spring practice, Petrino said.

Recovery time is four-six months.

Childs was injured early in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s 49-14 victory against Vanderbilt. He had to be helped off the field by team medical personnel after a 39-yard catch.

Arkansas led 35-14 when Childs was injured near the goal line. Childs was injured fighting for additional yards and attempting to break a tackle, one of his strengths as a receiver.

Petrino was asked his policy on when to pull starters. He answered specifically about the Childs' injury.

“That was the second play of fourth quarter,” Petrino said. “Every starter on both sides were in the game”

Losing Childs is a blow to the Razorbacks. He leads the team in catches (46), yards (659) and touchdowns (6).

"You're not going to replace his ability and competitiveness with just one person," Petrino said.

Wide receiver is Arkansas' deepest position. Options like Cobi Hamilton and Jarius Wright will be counted on more. Joe Adams (ankle) could potentially be back this week against South Carolina.
