Junior forward Michael Sanchez will be sidelined for approximately six weeks due to a foot injury Arkansas head coach John Pelphrey announced on Wednesday.

Sanchez, who missed all but four games of his sophomore season because of plantar fasciitis, suffered a stress fracture in his second metatarsal and had stress reactions in his third and fourth metatarsals.  The Springdale, native will be in a boot for four weeks before he can resume play.

“We are all obviously disappointed that Michael won’t be able to play in the season opener,” Pelphrey said.  “He was having a great fall and was ready to make significant contributions before feeling pain.  Hopefully we will be able to get Michael back into the lineup before the SEC schedule begins.”

In two exhibition games this fall, Sanchez averaged 9.5 points and 3.5 rebounds while shooting 70 percent from the floor.  He was third on the team with four steals and averaged more than 19 minutes in the two exhibition contests.
