Powell Makes 16th Razorback to Feel Pelphrey's 'Love'

Arkansas basketball coach John Pelphrey has not shied away from suspending players in his four seasons with the Razorbacks. Pelphrey’s willingness to keep players off the court was on display again Wednesday when the UA announced forward Marshawn Powell had been suspended indefinitely.

Unofficially, Powell is the 16th player among 32 that have suited up for multiple games under Pelphrey to be suspended. Powell, an All-SEC performer, is the second this season to receive what Pelphrey sees as tough love.

“I do believe that one of the greatest forms of love is to show discipline,” Pelphrey said Wednesday following an 87-59 victory against North Carolina A&T.

As noted with Rotnei Clarke’s suspension before the season, Pelphrey sure gives out a lot of love. He’s given it out to 50 percent of his roster in 108 games with the Razorbacks.

There are different ways to look at this:

* Pelphrey is a no-nonsense coach. He’s not going to let players run the team and will suspend as often as needed, even his star players.

* Pelphrey isn’t getting his message across to players. They continue to need discipline because they don’t fear messing up.
