[9 a.m.] Arkansas offensive coordinator Garrick McGee has issued a statement confirming he has removed his name from the Tulsa head coaching search.

“I have decided to withdraw my name from consideration for the head coach position at Tulsa. My goal is to one day be a head coach and there are a number of considerations that factor into when that time will come. I appreciate the opportunity Tulsa gave me to meet about their program and wish them the best of luck in their search. I look forward to continuing to work with Coach Petrino towards our goal of winning championships.”

McGee appeared to be the top candidate for the job last night.

Blog site SportsByBrooks.com suggests a couple of things could be at work with McGee's decision to withdraw: McGee has some legal trouble in his past (some dating back 20 years when he was a freshman in college) and the Tulsa salary was only believed to be in the neighborhood of about $500,000.

McGee recently had his salary boosted to $336,000.

[8:53 a.m., Friday] ESPN's Joe Schad says Arkansas offensive coordinator Garrick McGee has "decided to withdraw from the Tulsa coaching search."

This comes after multiple outlets reported that McGee was nearing a deal with the school located in the town where he grew up.

Below is last night's post on McGee and the Tulsa job:

---

Arkansas offensive coordinator Garrick McGee is in negotiations for the head coaching job at Tulsa, according to a report.

McGee, a Tulsa native, is in talks with the school, but has no official offer according to an updated post InsideTulsaSports.com. He and Texas A&M defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter each had multiple interviews, according to the Rivals-affiliated site. Earlier in the evening the site reported McGee had been offered the job, but it later softened to say only that negotiations were in progress.

Tulsa’s head coaching position came open after Todd Graham left for Pittsburgh. McGee, 37,  played at Tulsa’s Booker T. Washington High. His father was a well-known and highly respected coach in Tulsa for decades and McGee’s mother still lives there.
