It was the surreal image from one of the wildest NFL seasons: The night before Brett Favre would end his starting streak at 298 games, the roof of Minnesota's Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome came falling down from the weight of a freak snowstorm.
Almost forgotten now after blocks of ice slid off Cowboys Stadium and injuring six during Super Bowl week, officials are now saying that the entire roof of the Metrodome will need to be peeled off and replaced.
Will they go with that same balloon waffle look or find something a little stronger this time? Situated not too far from the Pilsbury headquarters, the thing's always looked like a pie coming out of the oven. The facility as a whole is one of the least-liked in the league by teams and fans alike. Even the Minnesota Twins baseball team who played host to two World Series inside that thing were anxious to leave.
The Vikings have made no bones about wanting to get out of there too, preferably before another roof collapse happens. But money is tight these days and with neither the team nor the municipalities involved in running the stadium wanting to foot the bill, football fans in the North Star state may just need to watch their heads for the time being.
