Matt Shanklin

This story is from the archives of ArkansasSports360.com.

Perhaps you remember reading about the ouster of former UA marketing director Matt Shanklin last year. Shanklin is among those with ties to Frank Broyles no longer working under athletic director Jeff Long.

Thanks to our friends at the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal, we now know that Shanklin has resurfaced at LSU, doing essentially the same job. Shanklin, who message board posters loved to hate, is a general manager for LSU Sports Properties.

Why did Shanklin became such a focus of fan hate? It seemed to start about the time that he over-ruled a halfcourt shot that would have awarded a year’s tuition to a student. Shanklin relented, but the fans never did.

Here's what the NWABJ had to say last year about some of the more positive things Shanklin did while at the UA:

It seems only fair, however, to remind Hog fans Shanklin was at least partly responsible for the UA ranking 18th by among Collegiate Licensing Company's top-selling institutions and manufacturers for the second quarter of the 2009-2010 fiscal year. Best we can tell, that's the same number of times Arkansas' football or basketball teams have finished any of the last 10 seasons ranked in the top 25.

We'd also like to take this opportunity to thank Shanklin for his instrumental work in three of our favorite things: the UA's baseball radio network, Baum Stadium's Hogpen, and (sigh) the RBI Girls

But what fun would remembering any of that be?
