Arkansas is now accepting applications for its men's basketball job.

This story is from the archives of ArkansasSports360.com.

Want to coach the Arkansas Razorback basketball team?

Feel free to submit your application. A job posting is up on the University of Arkansas employment opportunities page. Legally, the school has to advertise the job, but I'd doubt anybody that submits a formal application (without being contacted by the school first) is a real candidate, you know?

Here are the details:

The University of Arkansas at Fayetteville is currently accepting applications for the position of Head Basketball Coach for Men's Basketball. This position reports directly to the Vice-Chancellor/Director of Athletics.

Responsibilities include: the management of all phases of a top Division I Men’s Basketball Program, which includes recruiting, coaching, administration, team travel, public relations, student athlete welfare, and adherence to NCAA, Southeastern Conference and University rules and regulations.

Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree and NCAA Division I coaching experience.

This is a full-time, 12-month, non-classified position; that will require a pre-employment criminal and financial background check. A criminal conviction or arrest pending adjudication alone shall not disqualify an applicant in the absence of a relationship to the requirements of the position. Background check information will be used in a confidential, non-discriminatory manner consistent with state and federal law.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, resume, and references to the address listed below. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

Like I said, something tells me the real candidates for this job won’t be submitting applications like normal folks for normal jobs at the UA.

Speaking of candidates, below are the names that we keep hearing (in no particular order). Keep in mind just because we’re hearing them, doesn’t mean they’re actually on Jeff Long’s list.

Marquette’s Buzz Williams, unemployed former A&M/Kentucky coach Billy Gillispie, Texas A&M’s Mark Turgeon, Wichita State’s Gregg Marshall and Missouri’s Mike Anderson. Harry King also mentions Cincinnati’s Mick Cronin today in his column on the topic.

Minnesota's Tubby Smith was a name we'd heard, but he appears to have agreed to a contract extension with the Gophers. Amazing how having your name linked with a job can speed up year-long contract talks, eh?

Arkansas opened up on Sunday when Jeff Long fired John Pelphrey after four seasons.
