When he was pitching with Toronto, A.J. Burnett could file a claim on the confidence of the Boston Red Sox. He pitched around them, through them and kept the Sox swinging, adding up a 5-0 record. Since Burnett's been admitted to the Yankees however, the proverbial tables have been turned. The Red Sox have Burnett's number now and last night, it wasn't pretty in the 11-6 loss.
Burnett exited the game before the sixth inning, having given up eight runs, seven hits and four walks. The first inning ended with a Red Sox 3-0 lead. It's the fourth time since joining New York in 2008 that Burnett has pitched against Boston, and Wednesday's game was the fourth time Burnett has lost to them. His ERA against the Red Sox is 8.71.
Burnett started this season 4-1. He's now 6-4. Yankee fans are fickle, but they sure do love Burnett when he's winning. If he's lucky, he can avoid the Sox a little longer and if all else fails, we're sure the Blue Jays would be happy to take him back.
