Sure, there was writing on the wall and Jerry Jones has never been shy about trimming dead weight, no matter how revered they are. But still. We weren't expecting to say goodbye to Marion Barber and Roy Williams so soon:

Caught with decreasing production and a high price tag, Marion Barber was expected to be released by the Dallas Cowboys soon after the lockout came to an end. According to ESPN, Dallas' decision came to fruition Tuesday as they are ready to cut the veteran running back this Thursday.

Barber was scheduled to make $4.24 million for the 2011 NFL season, with a $500,000 bonus set to come his way. That was far too expensive for a 28-year-old back who has lost much of his trademark physical pop.

It's been a busy day of rounding up Cowboys' upcoming cuts, as Barber is the headliner of cap casualties that also include wide receiver Roy Williams and guard Leonard Davis.

The good news for Arkansas fans that Barber's absence will mean more opportunity for former Razorback Felix Jones. Also, it looks like Dez Bryant will get the last laugh in the receivers corp.
