A new face to the Arkansas retailing scene is taking a gander at entering the Greater Little Rock market.

Houston-based Weiner’s Stores Inc. would like to expand its growing chain to include the Natural State. The young public company operates 136 stores in Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi.

Weiner’s, which employs more than 3,800, is described as a neighforhood family retailer of branded products for value-conscious customers.

Total sales for fiscal 1998 were $260.9 million.

Company demographics indicate its customer base is 45 percent Hispanic, 35 percent African-American and 20 percent “other,” with an average household income of $30,000 or less.
