Arkansas will alter its traditional color scheme a bit for Saturday’s game against New Mexico.

No, we’re not talking changes to the uniforms. Athletic department officials are hopeful that red, white and blue will replace plain ol’ Razorback red as part of a tribute on the 10-year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

A red, white and blue Razorback has already been painted at midfield of War Memorial Stadium. [Update 11:51 a.m.] UA athletic department staffer Andrew Reynolds came up with the design of the patriotic Razorback. Reynolds serves as a graphic designer for the department and is the guy responsible for the Ryan Mallett "Get Ready" media guide cover from 2010.

In addition to the patriotic Hog, part of the tribute is the athletic department asking fans to wear red or white, depending on seating location for the 6 p.m. game against New Mexico. Students are being given blue shirts to help with the event. Odd-numbered sections are designated for fans in white and even-numbered sections are for fans in red. Previously, [insert color]-outs haven’t been particularly successful with Arkansas fans. Perhaps the occasion and the advance notice will help the Razorbacks pull off what would - if it works - be a nice photo op.

Arkansas initially announced plans for a 9/11 tribute on Aug. 24. You might recall l I liked the idea, but not the announcement execution. Or maybe you missed that totally. Here's that column.
