Arkansas 38, Troy 28
Why Arkansas Won
Thanks to a great start, the Razorbacks (3-0) were able to jump out to a 24-0 lead with 6:41 left in the game. Arkansas struggled from there and was outscored 28-14 to close the game. Thankfully for the Razorbacks, they had that early lead and got good production from the running game, something that had been previously lacking at times. Arkansas totaled 454 yards of total offense. Troy finished with 457 yards.
Turning Point
Troy had cut Arkansas’ lead to 10 in the third quarter when Joe Adams did what Joe Adams does. Adams made a spectacular, game-changing play for the Razorbacks, using a spin move to free himself from a tackle on the way to a 56-yard touchdown.
Arkansas led 38-21 with 14:09 remaining in the final period. Without Adams’ play, the Razorbacks could have been in trouble.
“It was huge for us,” Arkansas Coach Bobby Petrino said. “Joe made a great play. He broke a tackle, showed his speed and changed the game back for us.”
Top Performer
Ronnie Wingo looked like a No. 1 running back against the Trojans. He finished with 109 yards and two rushing touchdowns on 20 carries.
It was a career effort on the ground for Wingo, who entered the game with 123 yards. Wingo also caught three passes for 20 yards and a touchdown.
“I made some miscues protection-wise, but besides that I felt I did good,” Wingo said. “I just had a couple plays I made some minor mistakes.”
Wide receiver Joe Adams had a little higher praise for Wingo.
“People were saying our running backs hadn’t been looking good, but he played a good game tonight,” Adams said.
Slow Night
Arkansas posted consecutive 50 point games to open the season. It looked like the Razorbacks were on the way for another with the way they opened the game, scoring 21 points with just 13:56 remaining in the first half.
They slowed considerably from there.
